LifeGroup Leader Essentials

What exactly should I be doing as a leader?  How can I know if my group is doing what it’s supposed to?    The Eight Essentials are designed to give you goals to grow toward and a benchmark to measure your impact.  All of us long to see the lives of our group members changed for Jesus.  The Eight Essentials can help you create an environment in your group where members are challenged and inspired to grow their walk with God.

Effective habits as a LifeGroup leader.

Follow Jesus:

Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches.  Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.  For apart from me you can do nothing.”  John 15:5.   A LifeGroup leader’s top priority is to stay connected to Jesus.

Pray Regularly:

“As for me, I will certainly not sin against the Lord by ending my prayers for you.  And I will continue to teach you what is good and right.”  1 Samuel 12:23.  An effective leader prays regularly for group members and meetings.

Cultivate Relationships:

“This is the message you have heard from the beginning:  We should love one another.”  1 John 3:11.  An effective leader encourages friendships among group members.

Share Roles:

“A spiritual gift has been given to each of us so we can help each other.”  1 Corinthians 12:7.   An effective leader encourages each group member to have a role in group.

Compassionately Care:

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”  Galatians 6:2.  An effective leader encourages the group to care for one another.

Meet Intentionally:

“Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.”  Proverbs 21:5. An effective leader plans for group meetings.

Celebrate Steps:

“Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.”  Philippians 1:3. An effective leader notices and celebrates life change and spiritual progress in group members.

Apprentice Intentionally:

“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses.  Now teach these truths to trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”  2 Timothy 2:2. An effective leader develops other group members for leadership.

End Well:

“I have fought the good fight.  I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.”  2 Timothy 4:7. An effective leader prepares the group for a transition.
